Reflective notes from me:
I very much enjoyed this tutorial with Josie and got a lot out of it. Josie seemed to be sharing my excitement with where I have got to so far with both my sculptural practice and my new adventures into film making. It is always enlightening to discuss concepts, ideas and artworks with different tutors as it reminds me of how subjective art really is and that the main thing that is important is my own expression coming from within. Maybe this has conceptualised from ideas that surround us all, but the interpretation is mine and the journey I undertake to relay this in my own version of its story, which is the fun part.
We discussed mostly about the new film and how I have integrated my leg sculpture, process of both making sculpture and film, stories of humanities evolutionary relationship with technology and my own personal endeavours with overcoming mental and physical health issues within the film.
One thing I have been pondering is the legitimacy of using other people to help create artwork. Josie had no hesitation in suggesting that I seek the help of technicians to aid but also that some work that I want done in video editing especially can be relayed to experienced program operators to achieve. I guess the same has happened with the visuals and soundtrack to my film...although born in my head and my own daydreaming visions of what I wanted to create, it has been helped and guided along with the expertise and experience of other creatives within film, photography, sound engineering, music playing and sound production of which I am greatly appreciative.
It has been a busy few months, throwing everything I have at these projects, mainly because it made sense in my head to have it all ready for the symposium but also because I am uncertain how soon my next surgery will be. This brought the discussion to how I can spend the next few months after the symposium, not making anything else but concentrating on the aesthetics and logistics of installation for the end of year exhibition in July.
This I am very excited about.
