Things & Objects writing assignment 21.10.21

Things & Objects: Aldous George

Same artwork as last time, if you can’t remember it, use the words below to remind you.

It (BEING a thing) has varying grey shades between black and white, and is shiny, gleaming with a glossy, lustrous and polished slickness. From a distance its IDENTITY appears as an abstract representation painting upon a typical medium sized canvas, but on closer inspection as the light catches it, shadows are cast upon sparkles and torn wires creating movement and it CHANGEs into a more three dimensional, sculptural, carved, chiselled and engraved fashionable piece.

It appears as a possible mapping option with its calibration, alignment, SPACE and mountainous landscape cartography on its scaled grid like system.

With its precise rigor and tenacity comes a calming chaos of fluidity and solidness creating a stopped clock, broken yet still giving the right TIME twice a day. This heavy metal body of applied layers is dull and sharp with an anarchic meticulousness with influence and CAUSALITY causing a riotous topsy-turvy uncontrolled accuracy of events that unfold without a crease.

This alternative surrogate flipside of organic life, cast with its glittering organs and shimmering veins within a depressed body of head, arms and legs is a curious if not irregular substitute insight into a nightmarish POSSIBILTY, a possible post human modern abstract NECESSITY with its metallic essence, inviting an augmented palpable, tangible and tactile co-existence between man and machine.

BEING/REALITY - as far as we are aware, this reality is real, and the object is actually there, or is it? UNKNOWN

IDENTITY/PERSONALITY - altogether and similar a copy can be different or DISTINCT

CHANGE/DIFFERENCE – molten metal dripping off a spoon can collect and become STAGNANT

SPACE/ZONE - all openings whether it be in front or behind, will have a CLOSURE

TIME/PRESENT – Right now I hope that when I die there will be peace and artfulness in the FUTURE

CAUSALITY/INFLUENCE - everything that you do will be your artistic LEGACY

NECESSITY/ESSENCE - the essentials in life for some are artistic INDULGENCE

POSSIBILTY/POTENTIALITY – trying to understand where the edge of the Universe is seems an artistic INCONCEIVABILITY

Taxonomy of METAPHYSICS and OPPOSITES and that anything (ARTISTIC) including nothing can be everything, subjectively speaking of course.

Marks Feedback:

i enjoyed the shifts of language in this, and the way the text was repurposed or recontextualised in the second part, as words from part 1, were activated in different ways; the use of the broad concept of metaphysics to examine and unpack or expand the piece gave you a lot of material to work with, and a different set of materials to respond to ... like using a found frame or lens to explore it; ML
