This image of the female form was part of my BA Contemporary Creative Practice (2015-18). I used photos and drawings of figurative forms for my initial creation of abstraction in different ways with various media, mainly, print, metal and plaster.
Drawing attention to mental health issues like anxiety and depression and how we can all feel trapped in our own bodies.
I have since used this image to play with a new medium in the first year of my MA: molten metals.

As well as my original subject matter, I am now beginning to bring in other themes such as; a love hate relationship with technology; a transition between analogue and digital and digital v analogue; and the possible perils of the inevitable augmentation between the human race and technology.

Another piece from my BA: self portrait, again drawing awareness to mental health issues like feeling trapped in a box created by life and trying to escape.
As I began playing with this image with molten metal it also began to represent my own physical disabilities, mainly osteoarthritis in both hips of which I have had the left recently replaced but now have to have a large benign lipoma removed from my other leg before that hip can also be replaced.
My work will be influenced by this in year 2 of my MA. I have an ultra sound scan of my lump this Friday and am hoping to photograph and film as part of my research my research.
Again this image has been used for last years MA work.
Alongside my own health problems my Mother has been diagnosed with inoperable cancer and now the lead and toxicity of my molten metal medium is beginning to represent so much more:
A snippet I wrote from a recent writing assignment about matter & materiality in relation to this piece:

I want to expand my work this year through writing and adding narrative....

So last year as I began a journey to working more sculpturally I chose my son's arm to model from which began as more of an experimentation piece and now I want to add narrative through film - filming will be both process led but also more playful with story telling possibly as focus.

Just a snippet from one of last years process led video documentations I made:

One example of me starting to play with my sculpture, maybe a whole suit is around the corner?

After my tutorial with Josie, it was suggested that I look at the work of Alina Szapocznikow:

And that of Nathaniel Mellors:

And one of my favourite metal sculpture artists: Richard Serra.

And lastly but by no means least, Claybus.
Claybus is still on the backburner due to Lockdown's affecting my workshops and now my physical disabilities until things are fixed and recovered.

Feedback from the presentation:
Sinta pointed out a distinct difference between my studio practice and Claybus, how fluid Claybus was and how she would like to see this crossover into the studio practice work, maybe by taking my sculptures "off the wall and out of frames and interacting with the public and outdoor space".
This was kind of already discussed with Josie in my recent tutorial so it was nice to hear similar ideas converging.
Sinta also suggested looking at the work of Jesse Darling:

Zanna discussed the connections of opposites within my work we agreed how they belong together. We also share an unknown similarity with our work and how we allow our artwork to manifest itself.
Neil expressed his like of my connections with the future possible augmentation of man and machine and how this ties in with previous written work.
Sam suggested a move away from old work but more as an observation that a criticism.
Josie found the link between my work and how we cant escape or own bodies interesting.
Overall I found all the feedback very encouraging inspiring allowing my ideas of new ways to unfold.
