Year 2 has been quite a year. A rollercoaster in fact. I have had to deal with quite a handful of issues, to the point of feeling almost beat and unsure of my contributions and abilities. I’m not quite sure what happened but I really feel I managed to put my troubles aside, if not use them to my advantage, turn it all around and really crack on with everything.

I really enjoyed the prosthetic talks and workshop at the beginning of the year. I was already thinking of incorporating my hip replacement implant into my work, so was definitely off to a good start. Laura and Marks talks really helped me think laterally about investigative research as well as Marks writing seminars and assignments which has all really helped me to think and feel my way through tasks of unpacking writing, artworks and subjects/philosophies that interest me. I thoroughly enjoyed my essay this year, so much so I would like to consider going on to do a PhD.

My tutorials with all tutors have been extremely useful. Josie and Sinta really helped give different perspectives to my work which I feel has really added an extra dynamic to my creations.

The symposium seemed odd and daunting at first, but as it began to loom on the horizon, I felt we all worked really well together with excellent guidance and encouragement from Mark and Laura. It was an invaluable professional development tool, but for me it was a real catalyst to get stuck into my work. I treated it as a process-led documentation of my work initially which soon turned into making a whole film as part of my years main work. How would I feel if I had to do it again next year? Hmmm not sure. I think it was a good idea to leave most of it to years 1 and 2 to organise. However, I do really like how all years are mostly combined. I think it works well to bring us together and share ideas and thoughts.

Lastly, I really enjoyed the installation and working with Anya to create our Exhibition this year and I think we all deserve a big pat on the back because I think it went off really well on the opening evening. Anyway, that’s it from me.

I’m very much looking forward to year 3.
