Truro Cathedral
Re-interpret a religious artefact
Inspired by the internal architecture of Truro Cathedral, the baptistery and the story of Christ in particular the Eucharist, the personal challenge was to re-interpret this with sculpture, using wood and iron representing the crucifix, manipulated wire to take the form of the crown of thorns, a carved chalice from which the blood of Christ was distributed in the form of wine, a font full of grain representing the body of Christ and 12 goblets representing the disciples of Christ.
As well as trying to show respect for Christian belief, an attempt has also been made to draw awareness to an excessive spillage of blood through religious war and using the crown of thorns/barbed wire as a symbol of a place not to go. Also the overflowing goblet was meant to represent Judas.
Personal interests are to encourage people to unplug and take a step back towards fundamental life skills, being creative, respecting and reconnecting with nature.
